[edit] Project Status Tracking

Use this to provide periodic updates during the event

3PM
Setting up/Learning App Engine for any backend work. Setting up Android development environment.
4PM
App Engine "hello world" app up. Working on image uploading. Figuring out how to take pictures on Android. Phone UI is 90% mocked.

[edit] Project Content

Current plan:

  • Android app that takes pictures with geolocation.
  • Store pictures locally on phone (SD Card), along with csv with any additional info related to each picture. Address, location, etc.
  • Consolidate and show in a web app (using appengine). With fields to transcribe the image's data.

[edit] UI Mocks

Step 1: Begin location data collection, take photograph
[[1]]

Step 2: Confirm photo

Step 3: Edit/confirm location data collection info part 1
[[3]]

Step 4: Edit/confirm location data collection info part 2

     USAR
     Exploration Items:
   * caching of webapps
   * Not possible (at least on iPhone) - use Android
   * caching of data
   * Maps download
   * GPS w/o internet
   * Works but needs to use wireless to identify location on the map (unless maps are cached) http://www.talkandroid.com/android-forums/android-applications/2695-using-gps-without-internet-possible.html
   * TripComputer is a free app, and is even on Google Code.
   * CoPilot costs money.

     Architecture:
     - mobile device
     - laptop viewing data aggregation and translation of symbols
     Thoughts:
   * sync when internet is available
   * cache all data locally (even if uploaded)
   * need a mechanism to clear data when we can verify upload
   * USPS addresses with Google maps
   * Use a search path (upload order) to trace path of recovery
     Previous Work (Open Source)
   * http://code.google.com/p/gps-photo-tagger/
   * May or may not be what we're looking for, can't quite tell from the description
   * http://code.google.com/p/tripcomputer/
   * Offline Maps.
   * http://code.google.com/p/open-gpstracker/
   * May be simpler than TripComputer, easier to strip out what we need. Just tracks your path. Doesn't load up maps.
