Central to disaster risk reduction is advocating the importance of the issue and the real time impact. The ‘Disaster Panel’ is a simple idea to communicate the current disasters that are occurring throughout the world and how your particular organization is responding (or not responding) to those events.
The World Bank intends to have this ‘Disaster Panel’ displaying in public place within the organization to raise awareness of the frequency and intensity of disasters and highlight how the Bank is responding to those events.
User story 1: A regional director within the Bank walks past the ‘Disaster Panel’ display on a LCD TV. They notice that there are several medium to low level disasters within their region that they are not aware of. Moreover, they discover that the Bank has mobilized experts to support those events, but not all of them.
User story 2: The ‘Disaster Panel’ is display on the www.gfdrr.org website. An expert in disaster reduction sees that the Bank has a rapid response team to deployed in country X. As an expert in the field an living in country X the expert reaches out to the Bank rapid response team to provide local/subject expertise.
If a good start has been on the initial hack then the Bank will work with the developers to make sure that it uses it and that it is available for others to use.
